What even is “healthy” eating these days?

I’d like to address what I call the “overfed head”, which is what most western humans have as a result of Dr.Google, social media reels, years of diet campaign strategy, grocery store marketing and now health and wellness has become a multi trillion dollar industry. The profitability of this industry, gives that much more power to the already existing corporate brainwashing giants. This collective noise around what we should and shouldn’t be eating has left many of us confused.

Let’s look at the top superfoods that are known for putting you in the “super healthy” category of eaters if you consume…

Green smoothies galore, nuts, turmeric, berries, dark chocolate, whole grains, bone broth, sauerkraut, kale, beets, yogurt, spinach, grass fed beef, beans, tomatoes and the list goes on.

If one is dealing with histamine reactions, then fermented foods such as sauerkraut are a no, along with bone broth and tomatoes not being YOUR “super foods”

If one is unknowingly having issues with high oxalate foods then almonds, spinach and dark chocolate are not going to be YOUR “super foods”

If one is knowingly or unknowingly dealing with leaky gut then whole grains, beans, and yogurt are not going to be YOUR “super foods”

Bio individuality is key and there is no special formula, or one size fits all way of eating. “Healthy” foods contain many types of compounds that can create reactions in an already disrupted gut. I’ve always said, “it’s not the foods fault, heal your gut and watch how many different foods you can then tolerate.” It’s never just about the food. Once you discover the root causes of your food intolerances, which are imbalances in your gut, you can begin to create a food plan that works for YOU.

This information isn’t intended to add to your overfed head, and possibly have you more restricted or confused with your food choices, but to point out that you can’t always listen to the masses around your consumption of what’s nourishing for you or not. Upgrading from junk food to any of the above-mentioned foods is a great start for most, but if you’re still struggling after years or even a stint of “healthy” eating, it may be time to dig a little deeper. My goal is to support you in healing your underlying disturbances so that YOUR selection of foods is wide, balanced, and has you feeling freedom and pleasure with each bite.
